The fear of getting lost is very real. Being in an unfamiliar place can cause great panic because you don’t know who’s around or the “lay of the land”. Anyone could be there just waiting to take advantage of you, or worse. As children, we are often taught to never trust strangers who come on too strongly. Our first instincts are to scream and/or attempt to flee. This ties into a menacing entity that nobody can fully explain of a very tall humanoid male figure that can literally appear from nowhere. Slender Man is typically seen as a well-dressed man who lacks specific facial or physical features. His stature exceeds what we would expect a human to be. He’s almost like a stick figure to the next level. Although purely a fictional character, his appearance can be overwhelming. His aim is to lure some unsuspecting innocent person to their doom or to do something truly evil. Direct interactions are quite rare, but just his menacing presence is enough to traumatize someone and force them to do something unspeakable. While I personally have never encountered Slender Man, the idea alone is terrifying. I know he’s certainly imaginary, but there are some crazy people out there with similar intentions. Could this legend be just another tale to warn us of the dangers that lurk around us?
