Most folklore is based on historical legends that may or may not have actually taken place. However, what many people fail to realize is that almost all fiction has an element of truth. December 15, 1967 seemed like just another day. People went to work and got caught in rush hour traffic. However, this particular day would be tragic. Just across the river from Ohio, the small town of Point Pleasant, West Virginia saw its famed Silver Bridge collapse and kill 46 people. The span was considered to be top tier for its time. Nobody could figure out why such a seemingly sturdy structure would suddenly fall apart. One clue that many overlooked was a mysterious winged creature that was allegedly seen hovering over the bridge just prior to the accident. Was this entity responsible, or even present to warn of impending doom? Ever since, a large red-eyed bird-like beast has been spotted in the area and in surrounding states. An abandoned munitions bunker that was known as a youngster and adolescent hangout was thought to be where this creature lives and hides because of its seclusion. Point Pleasant has become virtually synonymous with Mothman. To this day, it’s seen and can’t be identified, but it often precedes some tragic event and terrifies witnesses. Is it just an unknown animal? Is it an alien? Is it a mutation-gone-wrong from prior days’ nuclear experiments? Personally, I see a strong resemblance to the harpy eagle that can be imposing to see. So what’s really behind the legend of the Mothman?
Is there really a large flying humanoid in America?
