San Jose’s Winchester Mystery House

Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, California takes “beyond your wildest imagination” to a whole new level. The story begins with Sarah Pardee Winchester, an heiress from the northeastern United States. Her husband was the original creator of Winchester Firearms. He died after being shot by his own rifle, as did many other unfortunate people. Deeply grieving, Sarah turned to a psychic who told her to move across the country and continuously build a mansion for all these victims. As long as she kept building, she would be safe. The result was a 160-room, 7-story mansion (now 4 stories). The house is full of secret passageways and dead ends to confuse the spirits. Doors and windows open to solid walls and sheer drops. On top of that, the home is reportedly haunted by many ghosts, including Sarah. The uniqueness of the place actually puts it as one of my own biggest “paranormal bucket list” wishes.
