Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in Weston, West Virginia originally opened in 1864 as means to heal those with severe mental illness via “civilized” means to criminals. However, that’s not what ended up occurring. Over time, the place became overcrowded, and the staff were severely overwhelmed. This led to a drastic shift that made peaceful operations far more sinister. Lobotomies, electroshock treatments, and isolation became the norm. Conditions there were incredibly brutal and harsh. The same patients that were supposed to be cured were actually killed. This led the institution to gain a much darker reputation and grew to become one of the most haunted locations in America. Paranormal legends include reported acts of violence and visitors being touched or even attacked. Disembodied voices of both adults and children are often heard throughout the building. As expected, the morgue is another creepy spot with tons of activity. What do you think about this location? Have you ever been there? I, personally, have not, but I have heard it’s a huge facility.
