Skinwalker Ranch in the Uinta Basin of Utah first gained notoriety in the mid- to late-1990s after the original owners, Terry and Gwen Sherman, were noticing “high strangeness” occurring on the grounds. Their cattle were mysteriously being mutilated and killed. UFOs and odd lights were seen hovering over the area. And other unexplained activities were being frequently reported. What seemed like a peaceful stretch of land to raise livestock quickly became a farmer’s biggest nightmare. Just a couple years later, Robert Bigelow purchased the ranch for scientific study purposes. However, the natives of the region have continuously had another odd theory about what’s going on there. Navajo lore talks of shapeshifting creatures, known as “skinwalkers”. These calm-appearing entities are actually anything but. They are said to be quite evil and wish to do more harm than good. Allegedly, they are very similar to werewolves but can take on the form of virtually any animal or person. Their aim is to lure an unsuspecting visitor into a false sense of security, only to send said observer to his or her ultimate doom. Various series and documentaries have aired in and around the area, but still nobody has reached any definitive conclusions to prove the existence of these creatures or any logical explanation for the weirdness that occurs there. The subject has fascinated paranormal researchers and locals alike for generations, but so many questions remain unanswered.
