Pompeii was a large village in what’s now the southern part of Italy, near Naples. In biblical times, it was one of the most sophisticated civilizations to exist. However, just 1 bad strike from a nearby volcano literally wiped the place off the face of the Earth, Mount Vesuvius to be exact. During the day, the ancient ruins are a popular destination for tourists all over the world. By night, however, the ambiance literally gets darker, and not just because of the light in the sky. Pompeii is so enormous that it’s difficult to see all of it at once. But that’s not the worst of it. Many visitors have been known to attempt to take pieces of the city home with them. These same people quickly have a change of heart, due to the overwhelming belief that the area is cursed, hence being levelled by a massive volcanic eruption. Everything is so well preserved it’s like the people just got up and left on a dime. Furniture is still intact in homes. Food still sits in ovens. It’s basically the definition of a ghost town. While most haunted sites have ghosts and spirits lingering, Pompeii is more about a dark and deserted aura over the land. As enticing as bringing home your own souvenir would seem, those who have done it end up greatly regretting it. Bad luck tends to befall those who get suckered in. People have even become seriously ill and died after looting there. Not a day or week goes by that Italian officials receive packages and mail from rueful sinners who desperately wish to rid themselves of the plague they brought on themselves. The swift disappearance of the natives gives the place an eerie feeling. So who’s to say it’s not still being protected by those from the other side?
