Has a dinosaur-like cryptid adapted to living in the Congo?

While exploring the swamps and jungles in Central Africa back in 1913, German Captain Ludwig von Stein zu Lausnitz happened to encounter a massive animal wading in the water. What he witnessed could have been at least as large as an elephant but was not like any modern creature known to exist at the time. Descriptions of the cryptid are much closer to an actual dinosaur with a long neck, similar to a Brontosaurus or a sauropod. While Ludwig’s reported sighting was the first actually physically recorded, other explorers and authorities have also had virtually the same types of encounters as well. Mokele-mbembe, as it came to be called, is a term from the native Lingala language that translates to “one who stops the flow of rivers”. Local lore has long held the monstrous creature in high regard, but more spiritual or supernatural than natural species. Culturally, it’s possible that the legend could have merely been a metaphor to explain what could happen if one got caught in dangerous river currents. Another theory may seem to blur the lines between people and wild animals.
