Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado was the brainchild of turn-of-the-century pioneer F.O. Stanley. While living further east, the aging businessman was stricken with tuberculosis. His doctor suggested moving west to the Rocky Mountains because of the cleaner and thinner air. He built an extravagant health club and residence for himself and his wife, Flora. This literally saved, and even prolonged, his life. Completed in 1909, this present-day luxurious mountainside hotel has become virtually synonymous with paranormal activity. In fact, had it not been for Stephen King’s coincidental stay there, it may never have become the marvel it is. Unexplained events that the author personally experienced led him to write a novel based on the Stanley; in turn, a classic movie was also created. Room 217 was where King stayed and reportedly encountered the spirit of a female nurse. Even Jim Carrey himself had an experience there that he has refused to discuss. Virtually everywhere has reports of paranormal activity, especially the 4th floor. Strange occurrences and feelings are quite common there by so many visitors and staff, myself included. The facility just seems to have a spooky vibe to it and is even seen as a possible vortex at the center.
