Haunted Cassadaga

Cassadaga, Florida is a small town in North-Central Florida that was literally built around people who follow the supernatural. Just before the end of the 19th century, a man named George Colby established his own Spiritualist camp for all things psychic, earning the city the title of “Psychic Capital of the World”, which still holds true today. However, the area does have a dark side as well. Ghosthunters are constantly flocking or striving to flock there because of its rich history based on the paranormal. Many people believe it was situated over a vortex with bursts of energy to attract the metaphysical world. It’s not without its own unique haunted hotspots, such as Cassadaga Hotel and Devil’s Chair.

Cassadaga Hotel opened in 1927 near the old Spiritualist camp and has multiple reports of paranormal activity. Ghosts and apparitions are frequently reported, along with creepy sounds of objects moving and unseen entities walking around.

Devil’s Chair is a bench made entirely out of red bricks that sits in the center of Lake Helen-Cassadaga Cemetery. Legend states that this odd place to sit was originally created in the 1920s to accommodate a man stricken with arthritis to comfortably idle next to his late wife’s grave.

The biggest story about this chair states a claim that, after placing an unopened beer can and letting it sit overnight, the can will be completely empty but still sealed shut when the sun comes up. The verdict is still out on whether Satan or just some rowdy party people actually drank the beer.

In addition, allegedly, if you sit in the chair at midnight, Satan himself will appear for a conversation or to suggest evil things. This one comes with a warning, as those who proceed face on-coming dread or doom.

Yet another urban legend tells of an unfortunate male who sat in the chair on Halloween at midnight and was never seen again. It’s believed that he was either dragged down to the netherworld or engulfed by a psychic vortex.

Despite all of these dark tales, Cassadaga is not necessarily thought to be an evil place. It’s just a meeting point for those into the paranormal to gather and collaborate their ideas.
