Arguably the most famous cryptid creature on Earth, a large animal may have called one of the deepest lakes since the time of the dinosaurs its home. The mystery is just how the Loch Ness Monster got there, and also how it could have survived for so long. The beast is typically believed to be similar to a plesiosaur, or reptilian dinosaur, with a long neck, flippers, and darkly pigmented skin or scales. One common theory is that it may have found its way to the lake via the ocean when these bodies of water were connected and got stuck there when Loch Ness officially formed in isolation. In 1933, a silhouetted photograph went public, which seemed to confirm Nessie’s existence; that is, until the picture was revealed and proven to be a hoax. Numerous expeditions have scoured the lake to find real proof, but that’s much more challenging than it seems, due to its depths of over 800 feet in places and hidden caves beneath the surface. Very scant amounts of known fish species are found there, which means a lack of a reliable food source for a large animal to sustain. To this day, a 24/7 webcam has been setup online for people to constantly watch for new evidence to emerge. Will Nessie ever clearly make her presence known? The world continues to watch and wait.
