Haunted Fort Morgan

Fort Morgan began its life as a strategic base for the military in the mid-1800s. Situated within Mobile Bay, Alabama, at the northernmost region of the Gulf of Mexico, the site originally housed Fort Bowyer and saw heavy action during the War of 1812. The brick-and-mason structure was named in honor of Daniel Morgan, famous for being a central figure during the American Revolution. Taking roughly 15 years to complete, it was commissioned by the United State Army Corps of Engineers to be built as forced labor by numerous African-American slaves. The ultimate reason for its literally coastal location was to monitor for ally and enemy ships that entered the harbor. The fort was literally a bloodbath that saw combat as far back as the War of 1812 all the way through World War II. With this extremely violent history, it’s no big surprise that it’s considered to be super haunted. Soldiers and enemies were imprisoned there, and it saw significantly tragic and harsh conditions and scenarios play out there. In addition, USS Tecumseh sank during the Civil War with 93 sailors aboard going down with it. This place is literally a graveyard that has seen it all, in terms of devastation and tragedy. A prisoner reported to have hung himself in 1917 is often reportedly heard crying and shrieking at night by visitors and staff alike. Around the grounds are a number of dark tunnels and creepy corridors that seem to feel much colder than the areas surrounding. Thousands of souls were literally held captive and/or lost their lives there, and the signs are everywhere. The fort was not a happy place, and those who once suffered there are all too eager to let us know about it.
