What creatures may be lurking at the dark of night?

As far back as we can remember, strange and mysterious creatures have been rumored to stalk the deepest and darkest corners. However, the legend of the werewolf related more to ancient mythology than straight cryptozoology. Various animals and entities are believed to exist around the world to give the idea a more modern sci-fi flavor. Between 2100 BC and 425 BC, Indo-European and Greek lore includes Gilgamesh, Herodotus, and the Neuri tribe. Back in prehistoric times, the natives were known to wear the skin and fur of wolves in their daily garb as well as act out bizarre wolf-like rituals and behaviors. Different cultures have their own beliefs on the subject. Some believe that turning into a wolf or wolf/human hybrid came after being bitten by a real wolf. Others say unique customs and antics may have gone too far. Maybe becoming a monster was some sort of punishment for sins performed. As times evolved, Medieval Europeans began associating werewolves with witchcraft and Satanic worship. Various undiscovered cryptid species may continue to walk the Earth that could put the legend to rest once and for all, such as Dogmen or Beast of Bray Road, or even Bigfoot/Yeti/Sasquatch. Who knows?
