Journey to the Bottom of the World

Antarctica is not likely to be a place where people would associate ghosts and paranormal activity, but the truth is that there actually are several hotspots that could give any unsuspecting visitors the creeps. As most investigators know, there is a clear link between spirits and cold. Earth’s largest desert is certainly familiar with that. While no permanent civilians reside in this frozen land, hundreds of workers do populate various bases. Even “Destination Truth” travelled there for their own adventures and did not leave disappointed. Various rumors live on to state the possibility of unknown cryptid monstrous creatures residing in the surrounding and interior waters, ice, and snow. Legends also persist of secret above- and underground bases having been set up there by Nazi Germany in the past. Near Ross Island and McMurdo Station, a major aviation wreck occurred in 1979 that people still tend to report hearing disembodied voices and sounds, as well as seeing footprints and shadows they cannot explain. Local shelters, like Scott’s Hut and Wordie Hut, give people an ominous feeling of not being alone and/or being watched. Deception Island also has its fair share of unexplained sights and sounds. Not necessarily supernatural, but there also exists Blood Falls that appears dark or bright red because of the mineral deposits in the surrounding terrain. In addition, seafarers have long been terrified of the Drake Passage that leads to Antarctica, due to rough seas and unpredictable weather conditions. The continent’s remote location could also factor into why the vibes are not always positive there.
