Great Wall of China has been around long before we were as a means of keeping Mongolian invaders out of hostile territory. First orchestrated in the 7th century B.C., the massive structure took nearly 4,000 years to complete and spanned the eras of various dynasties, like the Ming and Qin, used the tunnel of brick and stone fortress to keep their secrets out of enemies’ hands. With its extensive length, it could unify both ancient and more modern Chinese tribes and regions to facilitate trade through the rugged terrain. Not only that, but there are reports of various types of paranormal activity and experiences that continue to come back from those who witness the location firsthand. Even legendary archaeologist Josh Gates filmed an episode of one of his earlier series there and got some interested results within its darkest corners. Certain less accessible areas have come to earn the moniker “Wild Wall” for its sneaky good creep factor. It’s widely believed among locals that those who were enslaved and forced to help build the edifice remain trapped there within its walls even now. The story of Lady Meng Jiang states that her unfortunate spouse was one of those unfairly pressed into servitude during their honeymoon. During the cold winter season, she braved the elements to try to rescue him, only to learn that he was deceased. Allegedly, she wept so deeply that a portion of the wall fell and revealed her late husband’s skeletal remains. Another section, called Jiayuguan Pass, is thought to house a special brick placed there by a mysterious spirit that could cause the whole structure to fall if removed. Full apparitions are often spotted, supposedly “guarding” the area, and unexplained noises and sounds emanate from all over. People who witness ghostly events there later feel intense ill feelings. This, however, could result from the building’s tragic history of death and despair. In addition, contrary to urban legend, the Great Wall is not actually visible from Outer Space, so what’s really going on there? Does a dark period in world history continue to unfold beyond the grave?
