Is there a lake monster in Western Canada?

Accounts of a monstrous creature swimming in British Columbia’s Lake Okanagan date to the middle of the 19th century, when the first European settlers witnessed a large snake-like marine beast in 1855 and 1872. But its current name, “Ogopogo”, was not officially coined until 1924 after a British hit song gave the terrifying creature more of a comedic reputation. Indigenous tribes from the area saw the creature as a powerful protector of the water that took on the form of a massive serpent. It was held in such high regard that it was almost given god-like status, with the true name “N’ha-a-itk”. Reports of the cryptid still come forward to this day quite frequently, and many studies have been launched to figure out the truth of the matter. Other natural explanations include a sturgeon, which is a fish that can grow to massive sizes, maybe even 20+ feet long. Ogopogo is often thought to be anywhere from just a few feet in length to over 50-60 feet altogether with multiple humps that are often seen breaching the surface of the lake. That area is heavily forested and could simply be misidentified lumber, logs, or tree parts. In times of panic, most people tend to exaggerate or overdramatize exactly what they are seeing out of fear or anxiety. Some reports of the creature even mention that it has horns on its head. So what’s really going on there?
