Mysterious Oregon Vortex

Oregon Vortex has been around near the remote town of Gold Hill, Oregon for generations and was once considered “forbidden ground” by local Native American tribes, who believed that something strange existed in the area and it needed to stay barren. In fact, horses and other local wildlife and livestock were too spooked to approach the premises for unknown reasons. In 1904, Old Grey Eagle Mining Company used the site as their headquarters for research and business operations in the mining industry. As the years went by, the foundation of the structures there became slanted at significant angles. Then, over 2 decades after Old Grey Eagle was in charge, acclaimed scientist John Litster purchased the forested land for his own unique research and study purposes. That’s when he opened the site to the public in 1930 for anyone to explore the oddities of nature that seemed to occur there. Science and mystery lovers would flock there just to test it out for themselves. In the center, is the main structure, which sits at dizzying angles as if sinking into the ground. It’s even possible for bristled brooms to stand up straight, while humans are often overcome with vertigo. Other exhibits there include a spot where 2 people of different heights can stand and face each other and miraculously switch heights as they trade places. They also allow experiments that show ordinary balls appearing to roll uphill, when, in reality, it’s all just an optical illusion. Balls are actually rolling downhill against crooked lines in the background. Even after spending several decades honing his craft, John Litster eventually burned his blueprints to spare the general public the incredible information he had learned. The site is still a hidden tourist attraction today, although temporarily closed from recent weather conditions.

  1. Sound similar to the Mystery Spot in Santa Cruz, CA, which was so disorienting and gave me a huge headache when I went there
